Founder & Attorney
Mary is the founder of Heirloom Law, where she focuses her practice on estate planning, estate administration, and trust matters. She is the youngest and first woman to serve as Public Administrator for Mecklenburg County, an experience that deeply informs her work and perspective as a trusts and estates attorney.
Before founding Heirloom Law, Mary was the youngest and first woman partner of six at a prestigious Charlotte firm. She earned her undergraduate degree in Trust & Wealth Management from Campbell University and graduated from Campbell’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. During law school, she served as a research assistant to Professor Richard Bowser, co-author of North Carolina’s leading estate law treatise. She is now a co-author of Edwards’ North Carolina Probate Handbook.
Her work as Public Administrator — managing estates when no one else is able or willing to do so — has shaped her into a more thoughtful and practical estate planning attorney. It has reinforced the importance of asking good questions, planning carefully, and creating documents that truly work when families need them most.
Mary is known for her calm presence, careful listening, and commitment to serving clients with clarity and care. She believes that good estate planning is not just about documents, but about understanding people, relationships, and long-term goals.
Outside of the office, she enjoys contra dance, crochet, reading, travel, and reluctantly training for half marathons (for which she normally regrets registering). She can often be found walking Charlotte greenways with her dog, Cozette, where they volunteer together to help keep the trails clean.
